Mopane woodland. Iridescent purple-blue; long, graduated tail; dark eyes.

Game regions. Dark brown above, looks black. Legs well feathered. In flight shows dark underwings.

Bushveld. Glossy-green above, extending around neck; lower breast has purple and ruby-red breast-band; belly black.

Acacia thornveld. Dark brown above; clear white below; soft parts black.
