A new chapter in birding is upon us.
Newman’s Birds was established in 1967, with the vision of making birding easy and accessible for everyone. We are still driven by this vision today, passionate about building a community of birders and nature-lovers of all levels and backgrounds.
During Ken Newman’s birding career, he pioneered the birding field guide, publishing over 25 titles that illustrate and fully describe all the birds recorded from the Antarctic to the Zambezi River. His legacy carries on today through the next generation of Newmans.
We’re passionate about making birding accessible and relevant to everyone.
Everyone starts as a beginner, and we want to make birding as simple and appealing as possible to foster this interest. We also want to change the traditional perception and demographics of ‘birders’ – the future of conservation depends on it.
Community birders are playing an increasingly important part in nature conservation and science, by logging species distribution, reporting regional rarities, monitoring nest sites and threatened species and reporting injured birds.
This growing phenomenon connects the citizen scientist, the local guide, the resident twitcher, amateur photographer, nature lover and you into a new community of experts. And as it has always been, Newman’s is there to support you
