Wetlands. Grey wings and back. Grey-white body, black band on head; yellow bill and legs.

Grasslands, marshes. Neck and body grey; yellow crest on black crown; white facial patch.

Inland waters. Mantle and underbody grey; black cap; dark wings and tail; legs orange.

Pond fringes. Rufous from above the eyes to nape and breast; olive-green back; white on central crown, eye-stripe and shoulders; legs yellow.

Salt pans and soda lakes. White with pink and black bill; long pink legs; red and black wings.

Estuaries, lagoons. Adult all white; yellowish bill; pink legs. Black flight feathers.

Wetlands. Dark brown upperparts; ‘horned’ crest and golden flanks when breeding; head, neck and underparts white at other times.

Wetlands. Bill yellow, black briefly when breeding; legs and feet black.

Inland waters. Upperwings, back, tail, lower neck and bill grey; rest rufous.
