Description
Locally common resident and visitor. More slender and lighter-bodied than other ibises. Bronze-brown with iridescent green wings when breeding; at other times the head and neck are flecked with white. Immature is a paler brown, the throat whitish. Single birds or small flocks frequent grassland, farmlands, vleis, pans, sewage works and lake shores.

Bird Family
Fairly large birds with longish legs. Ibises have long, decurved bills for probing in the ground for insects, worms and other invertebrates, as well as small reptiles and mammals on occasion. Spoonbills have spatulate bills used to catch small fish and aquatic invertebrates. All but the Hadeda Ibis are normally silent.
