Thornveld. Red head; grey-brown above; speckled below; heavy bill.

Thornveld and suburbia. Light brown above; wings and tail darker; rump and underparts grey-white; eyes blue; bill black; mask and legs red.

Woodland. Rufous crest not normally visible, erect from nape in courtship; above brown with creamy arrow shapes.

Woodland. A large, pink-breasted dove with red eyes and a broad hindcollar.

Woodland, suburbia. Grey upperparts; brick-red breast; banded below. Orbital ring, lower mandible and legs yellow.

Dry scrub and thickets. Above light brown finely dappled black; below white with dense black barring; eye-rings yellow; bill and legs red.

Game and cattle regions. Upperparts and entire head dark brown; underparts and rump yellow-buff; bill and eyes red; eye-rings yellow.

Mixed woodland. Red bill in both sexes; male blackish-brown, wing feather edges white, female paler on breast.

Bushveld. Red head, neck, breast and upper-tail coverts in male; red lores and upper tail in female; rest of body grey-brown.
