Colour: Dark Brown

Riverine vegetation and gardens. Dark brown above with white eyebrows and dark eye-stripe; white below; flanks, vent and rump tawny.

Forest fringes. Above dark brown; eyebrow, forehead and underparts white.

Bushveld. Entirely dark brown; red facial skin and neck; dark grey legs.

Game regions. Adult large, dark brown; gape and feet orange-yellow.

Woodland thickets. Dark brown above; white below and well barred blackish.

Coastal forests. Above dark brown with two white wing-bars; face and underparts white, heavily marked and spotted black; bill black; legs pink.

Woodland. Dark grey-brown above, crown streaked dark; below whitish; breast and flanks indistinctly streaked brown; soft parts black.

Woodland. All grey; white facial disc with black surround; eyes orange.

Wetlands. Female has dark upperparts only; male entirely dark brown with bronzy sheen.

Grasslands and Karoo scrub. Dark brown above with rufous-edged wing feathers and pale chestnut rump; off-white below with dusky breast.
