Wetlands. All-yellow; male has brown throat-patch; black bill. Female greener above; white belly; bill horn-coloured.

Woodland. Black above with white wing-bar; white throat grades to cinnamon belly and vent.

Karoo Renosterveld. Red bill on mostly black bird; bright yellow legs; buffy above.

Riverine forests. Head to upper breast ash-grey; soft parts yellow.

Montane grassland. Iridescent blue-black plumage; red cap, bill and legs.

Bridges, towers. Cap brownish; rump orange; rest of upperparts dull metallic blue; breast orange dappled dark blue; belly white; vent orange.
