Description

Common resident. Male distinguished from [Carp’s Tit] by heavier bill and more white on the vent and undertail. Northern races may show more or less white on folded wings than illustrated. Female as illustrated or darker on underparts; immature similar. The calls are harsh and rasping, a rapid ‘twiddy-zeet-zeet-zeet’ or ‘zeu-zeu-zeu-twit’. Pairs or groups occur in a wide variety of wooded habitats.
