Arid woodland. Black and white with grey mantle and flanks; yellow eyes.

Common in towns. Fork-tailed with white crescent shape on lower back. Fast flyer.

Wetlands. White face on black head; rufous neck and upper breast.

Bushveld. Pied with grey crown; orange-yellow eye-wattles and legs.

Inland waters. Non-breeding bird has pale grey upper tail and black line behind eye to black nape.
