


Game regions. Dark brown above, looks black. Legs well feathered. In flight shows dark underwings.


Wetland marshes and flooded areas. Red bill and legs; black-and-white head and breast; white wings in flight.

Coastal shores, found in summer in non-breeding plumage. Grey upperbody apart from mottled black cap with white forehead. In non-breeding black legs and bill, in breeding yellow.



Woodland and grasslands. Back and wings light brown; coverts with black-and-white markings; head with crest at rear; neck grey; below white; legs pale yellow.
