Bird Family: Sparrows

Woodland. Red head, mantle and breast; pink bill; belly white.

Croplands. Red or pinkish bill on small, weaver-type bird; male has blackish face.

Mixed woodland. Red bill in both sexes; male blackish-brown, wing feather edges white, female paler on breast.

Wetlands and river forests Both sexes yellow; greener above; eyes pale yellow. Male has black mask from central crown to throat.

Human settlements. Crown grey; nape dark brown grading into chestnut back and wings; small white wing-bar; lores to bib black.

Wetlands. Large yellow weaver; greener above; eyes pale yellow; bill black; male with orange throat in NW regions.

Dry thornveld. Grey crown; chestnut nape, back and wings with small white wing-bar; male only with conspicuous black bib.
