Description

Uncommon to locally common resident. A large, golden weaver with heavy black bill and pale yellow eyes. In the Okavango region and western Zimbabwe, male has an orange wash over the throat (b); this not present in southern birds (a). See also [Southern Brown-throated Weaver], which has a brown throat-patch. The immature resembles the female but is greener and more streaked above. Utters a harsh chirp and a prolonged swizzling. Found in pairs or small flocks in reeds and thickets on rivers, marshes and gardens. Sparsely distributed in the south.
