Commensal with humans. Introduced. Has grey mantle and breast but looks all black.

Broad-leaved & acacia bushveld. Forked tail diagnostic. Ruby-red eye, noisy and conspicuous.

Bushveld. Three almost identical species when breeding. When breeding, a variation between a whitish bill and reddish leg colours distinguish the species.(1) Red bill red leg; (2) whitish bill white leg; (3) Whiteish bill red leg.

Cape west coast. Like a short-tailed Reed Cormorant with permanent crest.

Lowland riverine forests and dune forests. Pale beak; black tufted head and neck.

Forest & dense river fringes. Tail has shallow fork only. Wine-red eyes. Noisy.
