Coastal shores. White body apart from black cap, pale grey back and wings with short tail; long, slender black bill (similar to Little Tern)

Riverine forests. Blackish above, white below; large red bill with yellow base.

Towns. Head, mantle and breast black; black and white wings, rest brown; darker above; vent white.





Various dry habitats. Black-and-white streaked head; rufous wings, crown, mantle; below washed grey-brown.

Woodland. Black and white wing bar, Rufous flanks on white underparts. Female has brown cap.
