Denham’s Bustard

Uncommon resident. Larger than [Ludwig’s Bustard], differing mainly in ash-grey or whitish foreneck, black cap with white central parting and black-and-white wing coverts and secondaries, which are visible as a large black-and-white patch on the folded wing. Breeding male has no grey on its neck. In courtship, the male fluffs its plumage, erects its fanned tail, revealing white undertail coverts, and inflates its neck. Normally silent, occurring in hilly grassland of the eastern escarpment, eastern coastal regions and the Karoo.
