Coastal bush and thickets. Brown crown and mantle. Rufous wings; heavy bill.

Woodland. White bird with black wings and tail; orange eyes.

Lowland woodland. Dull grey-brown overall; darker above; paler below; curved bill length of head.

Woodland. Black above with white wing-bar; white throat grades to cinnamon belly and vent.

Karoo Renosterveld. Red bill on mostly black bird; bright yellow legs; buffy above.

Montane grassland. Iridescent blue-black plumage; red cap, bill and legs.

Brackish waters. Grey head (female has white face) on rufous body; black bill and legs.
