Forests. Entirely orange except for brownish crown and silver-grey wings.

Bushveld. Grey cap and mantle; olive-green wings and upper tail; below yellow with orange breast-patch.

Evergreen forests. Rich orange throat and breast. Bold white wing bar.

Forest thickets. Cinnamon yellow breast patch, grey cap, and olive-green upper parts.

Lowveld. Cap, ear coverts and rump rich orange; below white, well streaked black.

Rocky grasslands. Rump and upper-tail coverts orange; below orange lower breast; paler towards belly.
