Rivers. Above metallic blue; cap orange; below white; long tail streamers.

Wetlands. Orange forehead; metallic-blue above; white below with black breast-band; forked tail.

Bridges, towers. Cap brownish; rump orange; rest of upperparts dull metallic blue; breast orange dappled dark blue; belly white; vent orange.

Grass savanna. Above metallic blue; below deep orange.

Open woodland; above metallic blue; below white; forked tail.

Woodland. Above metallic blue; throat, upper breast and underwings white; rest of underbody deep orange.

Lowveld. Cap, ear coverts and rump rich orange; below white, well streaked black.

River banks and grassy slopes. Above metallic blue, except greyish cap and rump. Forked tail.

Grassland. Top of head orange; rump pale orange; rest of upperparts metallic blue; below whitish, lightly streaked.

Lowlands and escarpment. Slow, low flight.
