Regional Status: Near Endemic

Dry bush. Eyebrows, cheeks and underparts yellow; upperparts olive-green,paler in W, darkest in SE.

Karoo. Heavy-billed, greyish canary with yellow rump.

Arid woodland. Black and white with grey mantle and flanks; yellow eyes.

Dry thornveld. Both sexes have violet ear coverts and red bills.

Arid plains. Southern race is light grey-brown above; Namibian race very pale brown, almost white above; both races white below; rump buff or white.

Grasslands and scrub. SE race has rufous colouring overall; short tail.

Mixed Savanna. Pied. Large yellow bill unmistakable.

Woodland. White crown; light brown mantle; dark wings; tail, lores and ear coverts, throat and breast white; belly to vent light brown.

Bridges, towers. Cap brownish; rump orange; rest of upperparts dull metallic blue; breast orange dappled dark blue; belly white; vent orange.

Rocky hills. Grey above with white crown; rufous below from upper breast to vent.
