Dry acacia woodland. Scaled light grey-brown above; cap light brown; lores and chin black; rest of underparts white.

Forest fringes. In the south, a dull-green bird with whitish eyes; Zambezi and beyond brighter green above, yellow-green below.

Okavango. Lagoons and backwaters. Told by yellow legs and feet plus tawny throat.

Grasslands and Karoo scrub. Dark brown above with rufous-edged wing feathers and pale chestnut rump; off-white below with dusky breast.

Woodland. Banded rufous below chin to belly; above grey. Immature has rufous streaks and bands below.

Rocky hills. Grey above with white crown; rufous below from upper breast to vent.

Northern woodlands. General uniformly glossy blue; black ear patch; red eye.

Grassy woodland. Legs dull yellow. Above dark grey-brown, blotched black and streaked white; throat white; below white, breast blotched red-brown, belly barred black.

Rocky uplands. Grey head, mantle and breast; lower breast to vent rufous.
