Wetlands. Adult has red-brown neck; young birds mostly light brown; below white.

Bush and suburbia. Small pied bird with red beak and very long tail.

Inland waters. Non-breeding bird has grey wings. Paler when breeding.

Widespread. Black crow with white breast and collar.

All waters. Pied with stout black bill. Hovers over water before plunging.

Wooded bush and near cliffs. Dark grey above with closely barred underparts

Wetlands. Entirely pied waterbird. Told by black, upturned bill; legs white.

Woodland. Dark brown-grey above well spotted white; streaked brown and white below with large white pearl-like spots.

Open woodland; above metallic blue; below white; forked tail.

Broad-leaved woodland. Dull grey-brown overall; paler on throat; soft parts black; eye-rings pale.
