Description
Common, near-endemic resident. Identified by very small size, pink bill, ‘bearded’ appearance, fine ‘scaling’ on forehead and black wing-feathers boldly edged with white. Sexes are alike; immature much duller, bill horn-coloured. When disturbed, flies off making a chattering sound. Small parties occur in dry thornveld regions, often around human settlements, frequenting fowl runs, gardens and camps.
