Description
Common, localised endemic resident. Male lacks any white in the wings, but shows clear white panels on its outer tail-feathers. Female is much browner than female of [Cape Siskin]. Sings well. Pairs and small parties occur on high grassy slopes of the Drakensberg, moving to lower levels in winter. Common around villages and agricultural fields in the Lesotho highlands. Habits much like [Cape Siskin].

Sparrow-sized or smaller songbirds. Canaries and siskins have strong conical bills, usually notched tails and undulating flight. Buntings are strongly terrestrial and have weaker, narrower bills. Many species are nomadic.
