Swamp Boubou

Description

Fairly common resident. Differs from [Southern Boubou] and [Tropical Boubou] in underparts being white, no pinkish tinge even to feather bases. Similar to [Southern (Common) Fiscal], but habits different. Call is less musical than other boubous, a short whistle replied to by a harsh ‘kick-ick’. Also less secretive than other boubous; will perch openly while calling. Pairs occur in papyrus, riverine woodland and thickets in the Okavango–Linyanti–Chobe region of northern Botswana.

Bird Family

Boubous are a group of striking, often brightly coloured bushshrikes, with heavy shrike-like bills. Usually rather secretive, mostly preferring dense vegetation. Their distinctive calls, often sung in duet, are likely to be the first indication of their presence. Largely insectivorous, although some species will eat fruit and small reptiles.
