Ruppels Korhaan Ad

Description

Common resident, near-endemic to Namibia. Similar to [Karoo Korhaan], but has more extensive head and neck markings including a diagnostic black line down the centre of its throat. Sexes are similar. Calls in duet, a deep, resonant ‘waaa-a-re-e, waaa-a-re-e…’; the first call by the male, the next three by the female, repeated in long sequences. Individuals also draw the head back and then thrust it forward, calling a deep ‘augh’. Flight call is a rapid ‘quark-quark-quark…’. Pairs frequent arid regions and stony desert plains in western Namibia.
