Description

Common endemic resident. White eyebrows and throat with dark malar streak and white tail-tips identify this otherwise sombrely coloured robin. Immature has buff-barred upper parts and dark-mottled underparts. Song composed of short, choppy phrases ‘pheeoo, tirrit-tirrit, chuck, chuck, sweeoo, chuck…’. Alarm call is a penetrating, metallic ‘zzzz’. Frequents Karoo veld, feeding on the ground amidst scrub. Conspicuous and noisy.
