Description

Common resident. A dull, noisy inhabitant of the shady understorey. upper parts entirely dark olive-green (has grey crown in central and southern Mozambique); closely similar to [Grey-backed Camaroptera]. Utters a goat-like bleating ‘bzeeeb’ and, in the breeding season, a loud territorial call ‘chirrup, chirrup, chirrup…’ continued for long periods. Occurs singly or in pairs in evergreen forest fringes, moist, well-wooded lowland valleys, and riverine and coastal bush. Mostly secretive in the lower stratum except when male ascends to a higher level to call.
