Description

Common resident. Distinguished from [Cabanis’s Bunting] by white stripe below eyes, browner mantle and more orange breast. Female has yellowish head-streaks, brown in immature. The normal call is ‘pret-ty-boyeee’, sometimes answered by the mate ‘sitee’. The song is a frequently repeated ‘chipchipchipchipchip-teee, teeu-teeu-teeu-teeu’. Pairs occur in mixed bushveld, thornveld, broad-leaved woodland and exotic plantations.
