Description

Common resident. Distinguished by black head and pink bill; cf. [Southern Masked-Weaver] and [Lesser Masked-Weaver], which are smaller with black bills. Sexes are alike; immature as illustrated. The usual call is a loud, liquid ‘pheeoo’ but it also utters a ‘churr’ alarm call. Singly or in pairs in moist, well-developed woodland or mixed bushveld, riverine forests and exotic trees. A noisy, conspicuous species. It is absent from the dry central and western regions.
