Description

Common resident. Differs from other small yellow warblers and white-eyes in chestnut cap and eye-stripe and habitat preference. In southern birds, yellow extends onto flanks and belly; in northern birds yellow confined mainly to throat. Immature has a greenish wash to the breast. Usually located by plaintive ‘tieuu’ call repeated for long periods, plus a high-pitched whistled song ‘tirritee tirritee tirritee’ or ‘sip sip sip sip pilly pilly pilly’. A bird of evergreen forest and forested kloofs, where it forages in the canopy and mid stratum. Related to [Willow Warbler].
