Description

Common resident. Breeding male conspicuous, displaying by flying about puffed up with rapidly whirring wings while making various buzzing sounds. Female and non-breeding male difficult to distinguish from other bishops and widowbirds, but rather small and compact, with dark mantle and whitish belly. Found in vleis, near dams, in grassland and cultivations when breeding, otherwise in nomadic flocks that wander widely, often with other weavers.
