White browed Sparrow Weaver

Description

Common resident. Distinguished by bold white eyebrow and, in flight, striking white rump and upper tail coverts. The spotted-breast race (b) is found in Zimbabwe. Sexes are alike; immature has a horn-coloured bill. Call is a harsh ‘chick-chick’; also a loud, rambling song of liquid notes ‘cheeoo-preeoo-chop-chop, cheeoo-trroo-cheeoo-preeoo-chop-chip…’. Pairs and loose flocks occur in dry thornveld, usually near the trees containing their nests. Conspicuous and active, nest-building at all times of year.
