Description

Common, localised near-endemic resident. Differs from other grass-warblers within its limited distribution in heavily streaked head and mantle, bold facial markings, rufous belly and habit of keeping its tail raised high. Song is a warbling ‘tip-tip-tootle-titootle-tootle-too’ heard early mornings and evenings. A shy but lively bird of grassy rock-and bush-strewn hillsides and dry watercourses in Namibia.

Bird Family

Small, insectivorous birds of mostly sombre colouring. Many have attractive warbling songs and short calls that aid identification to the practised ear, but sound confusingly similar to the inexperienced. Several species visit southern Africa from Europe during summer. Sexes are alike.
