Common, localised resident. Male differs from [Pink-throated Twinspot] in deep crimson coloration, female in more rusty breast. Call is a stuttering, grasshopper-like trill ‘trree-rree’. Pairs and small parties occur on open ground near forests, dense bush and streams or in dry, open country.
