Description

Locally common resident. Differs from [Green-winged Pytilia]mainly in the underparts being barred green and buff (not black and white) and in having orange-edged wing-feathers, which appear as an orange patch on the folded wing. The bill is shorter and mostly brown on the upper mandible. Red mask of male extends over lores, unlike Green-winged Pytilia. Call is a single, flat ‘seee’ and a two-note, piping whistle. Behaviour and habitat preferences very similar to [Green-winged Pytilia]. Is host to [Broad-tailed Paradise-Whydah].
