Description

Common and widespread resident. Distinguished by black mask and forecrown, white band encircling back of neck and yellow-buff breast. Immature lacks black mask and forecrown and yellow breast. Distinguished from the similar Lesser Sand Plover mainly by white collar, darker upper parts and habitat. In-flight call of adult is ‘tip-peep’; also utters a trilling ‘trit-tritritritritrit’. Found at the edges of inland waters, coastal estuaries, open ground and airfields.
