Description

Common, localised resident. Differs from [Rufous-tailed Palm-Thrush] mainly in black-bordered throat-patch (often broken or incomplete), grey nape, duller mantle and straw-coloured eyes, but has similar long rufous tail. Immature is mottled below; black throat-border vestigial. Has a melodious, liquid song heard mostly mornings and evenings. Normally lively and conspicuous but more secretive when breeding. Spends much time foraging on the ground. When perched on a branch, droops its wings and raises and lowers its tail continuously. Pairs and small parties in palm savanna with Borassus and Hyphaene palms, being especially numerous in the Victoria Falls and Gorongosa regions.
