Description

Common endemic resident. A fairly large robin with black hood (no white eyebrow) and clear orange underparts; immature well spotted. The contact call is a monotonous ‘toy, toy, toy…’ repeated for long periods, the song a variety of beautiful, mellow phrases incorporating imitations of other bird calls. Very vocal Oct–Jan. A species of montane evergreen forests, inhabiting the mid stratum. Often absent from montane forests Apr–Sep, but present in coastal forest at this time.
