Terrestial Brownbul Newman's Birds

Description

Common resident. A very drab brown bird, apart from the white throat and reddish eyes. Underparts barely paler than the upper parts; at close range a yellowish gape is discernible. Immature has redder wing-feather edges. Usually in parties of six or more, individuals maintaining contact by quietly chuckling or murmuring. Frequents dense riverside and hillside thickets, and dense undergrowth in forest and bushveld, scratching noisily about in debris and seldom ascending above the lower stratum. Easily overlooked unless heard.
