Description

Common endemic resident. Entirely dull brown. Male usually has white shoulder-patch (sometimes obscured by wing-feathers); female lacks shoulder-patch and is paler brown. Both sexes show white wing-feathers, most conspicuous during brief, fluttering flights. Call is a sharp ‘peek’. A terrestrial species. Often perches with erect stance on termite mounds, bushes or fences in short grassland. Often in parties near nesting burrows (especially Aardvark burrows).
