Grasslands. Red or orange face; flight feathers, upper legs and tailtip black; legs pink.

Grasslands. Head and underparts (including underwing coverts) rufous; upperwings grey. Cere and legs red.

Inland waters. Non-breeding bird has grey wings. Paler when breeding.

Grey above; russet crown; buffy-white below; orbital rings, cere and legs yellow.

Estuaries, lagoons. Adult all white; yellowish bill; pink legs. Black flight feathers.
