HABITAT
Nomadic, occurring singly, flying low over lowland and montane grassland , often near the edge of woodland. Feeds on Small mammals insects and birds. declining population due to loss of breeding habitat.

SPECIES DESCRIPTION
Uncommon summer visitor from central Eurasia. Male differs from male of Montagu’s Harrier in appearing much whiter in the field, wingtips with only narrow black sections. Plain pale grey above, totally white below; cf.Black-winged (Black-shouldered) Kite. Female indistinguishable from female of Montagu’s Harrier unless white collar is visible behind the dark ear coverts; white rump and clearly banded tail separate it from African Marsh Harrier . Females and similar juvenile s (often called ‘ringtails’ owing to their conspicuous white rumps) are often extremely difficult to distinguish from similar Montagu’s Harrier.
