HABITAT
Occurs singly or in pairs in broad-leaved woodland, mixed bushveld and thornveld, especially among baobabs and palms in low-lying regions. Still-hunts from a tree perch, swooping to the ground to catch its prey. Capable of rapid flight but usually flies in a leisurely manner.

SPECIES DESCRIPTION
Uncommon, localised resident. Distinctive grey kestrel with almost white head and neck, very pale rump and yellow soft parts . Tail is boldly barred with black, unlike Grey Kestrel (indistinct barring) and Sooty Falcon (plain, unbarred tail). Immature is slightly browner on its underparts.
