Kalahari and Arid west. Face and throat yellow; crown, hindneck, upperparts and breast pale yellow heavily dappled blackish; belly dusky; vent rufous.

Namaqua Sandgrouse
Desert. Longer, pointed tail than other sandgrouse; female has dense barring all over, apart from throat and underbelly. Both sexes have ochre heads and flock at waterholes mainly in morning.
Double-banded Sandgrouse
BBroad-leaved woodland. Usually in pairs. Female almost completely speckled. Male has distinctive white and black band on breast. White spots on back.
Burchell’s Sandgrouse
Sandveld. Usually in pairs or flocks at waterholes. More ochre and heavily speckled than other sandgrouse. Female with yellow face and throat, male grey-blue and more rufous overall.
